Best Central Coast Bushwalks accessed by Public Transport

The bush is absolutely lovely, there are times in your life when you just need it to be accessible by public transport. This means there is no worrying about cars and you get to enjoy a lovely train ride as well. If you are really lucky you'll need to take a ferry too. Its all part of the journey.

If you have small children who are starting to do a bit more walking on their own, you might also want to check out our short walks guide or our level walks link.

We also have a guide to Wildflowers on the Central Coast because there are so many stunning flowers in the bush here.

Dangar aboriginal engravings - train trip to

Dangar Aboriginal Engravings (2km)

This beautiful short bushwalk is accessible by train and ferry, its well worth exploring this lovely island with its yummy cafe and playground as well. A great day out.

Tank cove on little wobby to woy woy walk

Little Wobby to Woy Woy (16km)

Elevation change: 570m

This is one of my favourite walks on the coast, stunning water views throughout, you'll feel like you have the peninsula to yourself. Tank Cove and the Waterfall there is stunning as well.

Gosford to Lisarow Station bushwalk

Gosford to Lisarow Station (13km)

Elevation change: 440m

This traverse goes along the ridgeline between Gosford and Lisarow and has some beautiful lookouts. In Rumbalara I'm always struck by how beautiful this area is, have spotted echidnas, wallabies and diamond pythons along here. Always an enjoyable walk.

Woy Woy waterfront park walk - image of park

Woy Woy - Lions Park to Blackwall Mountain (3.6km one way 7.2km return)

Elevation change: Up 120m, Down 120m

This wal has a great playground that the kids will love and many ducks and other birds along the water. It is also a lovely night time walk as well, you can watch the moon reflected in the water. Take a train to Woy Woy and walk along the waterfront to Lions Park.

Rumblarar donnison walk loop image of gosford from above

Rumbalara - Donnison Street Loop (3km)

This is a great lunch time walk if you work in Gosford. It has a beautiful section of rainforest at the bottom and stunning water views and views of the city above. Catch a train to Gosford Station and walk to the start of Rumbalara.

koolewong to woy woy bay via spion kop via accessible transport

Koolewong to Woy Woy Bay via Spion Kop (11km)

Elevation change: 300m

Spion Kop is one of the best walks on the coast, and you can get there walking from Koolewong Station. Stunning water views, caves, a river, lovely wildflowers. This is a bit steeper so best for more experienced walkers.

Point clare to tascott walk image of person in cave on walk

Point Clare to Tascott (4km)

Elevation change: 220m

This is a lovely walk along the ridgeline between Point Clare and Tascott.

Berrys Head Explorer walk - image of cave on walk

Berrys Head - Explorer (2.5km)

Elevation change: 110m up 110m down

This is a beautiful piece of rainforest reserve, a lush valley worth exploring with different rocky outcrops to explore as well. As this has the Jane Young Loop as part of it, beware leeches. There is a small section of this walk that is not on a track so do not undertake if you are not comfortable with off track walking. Note: It is possible to do this bushwalk via public transport by taking the train to Narara Train Station and walking to the end of Berry Head Road from there.
