Somersby Bonsai Gallery

This is a concept for a bonsai gallery at North Somersby. A life size bonsai stands on a rock platform above the meeting room, so it can be seen from above and below.

Sandstone retaining walls and terraces set off the bonsai collection, and the studio areas borrow the surrounding landscape with different shades of rock and movable shelter overhead. The meeting room has timber framed double glazing, accessible bathrooms and ramp access, and sandstone shapes and timber logs make the furniture for the waiting area.

An onsen style hydrotherapy pool with rock islands sits below an outdoor pavilion and shower. Level concrete paths, pressed with the impressions of plants from the site, connect inside and out.
